Verizon and AT&T Cell Phone Subscribers Can Watch Live Television!

Just when you thought cell phone Internet capabilities were up to par with our needs, Verizon and AT&T cell phone subscribers can now enjoy live television feeds from most of the major television broadcasters. Is that enough to ploy subscribers from other cell phone providers to make the switch? It depends on how deep you are into American Idol!

Switching channels is as easy as clicking a remote and there are no lengthy downloads necessary. This is not a bunch of Web apps that lead you to downloads of streaming video, this is true broadcasting of your favorite television networks, usually at the same time as your regular television, and in some cases, the broadcast times are slightly shifted. You can catch the latest breaking news according to your favorite news network, watch live sporting events or catch full-length episodes of your favorite shows.

The technology involves encoded signals that are received by capable devises in a similar manner as HDTV broadcasts. The solution can even broadcast all available channels on the built in GPS screen in your car, which is fully functional when the car is in park. This solution is looking like it will run about $500.

Just recently, with the Presidential inauguration, AT&T and FloTV reported record usage rates. The hour that the inauguration took place, text messaging spiked six times normal levels. Despite the crowded network, the inauguration broadcast flawlessly for most FloTV subscribers. Needless to say, it is unlikely that you will experience a lot of breakages in the broadcasts, and despite a lot of activity in your network that may cause you to drop a call here and there, your broadcast will likely stay in tact.

Best of all, your cell phone has cable. The major participating networks include CBS, CNBC, ESPN, Comedy Central, Fox, Food Network, MTV and Nickelodeon. Outside of watching CSI or any of the live sporting events broadcast on ESPN, you can also catch your favorite Comedy Central series, MTV’s Real World or Dora the Explorer on Nickelodeon.
